To carry on with CRM’s post yesterday I thought I would do a “CHEERS” to all our readers and to the 3 day weekend ahead of us. 3 day weekends are a big deal for us!
We all do it. We’re sitting around having some bubblys and someone pipes up and says something sentimental, or not, and then we are all clinking our glasses saying “Cheers!!”
Why do we cheers before drinking??
There are many variations of the origin of Cheersing (is that a word?) , I guess its called Toasting in that context.
The dictionary defines it as a toast or valediction- both words of which I needed a definition of also.
Valediction is an act of saying goodbye.
A Toast is any of these 3:
a. The act of raising a glass and drinking in honor of or to the health of a person or thing.
b. A proposal to drink to someone or something or a speech given before the taking of such a drink.
c. The one honored by a toast.
Finally! That is what I always thought a Cheers meant!
My Cheers is (a)to honor our Readers!
“To our Readers Close enough to be Friends and our Friends Close enough to be Readers”.
Thank you for your loyalty!
Cheers to the Weekend!!
Sister M and I got out for a run together yesterday.
We had our water bottles and at the end of our run even caught ourselves doing this to congratulate our finish!
What are you going to Cheers to this weekend?
