So CRM already told you that I was a complete turd, and forgot my race bib at home...boo...not a great start to the morning
Once CRM's little sis had decided to sign up and do the 5km - decision made for me - I'd do the 5km and run again with her!!! (I luv running with others). Em did her first ever run, just last month - and you can read about it here. The morning of the run CRM's mum decided instead of running on her own in the race - she wanted to join us as well - yeah more friends to run/chat with!!!
not exactly May weather - even for us Canadians |
I had asked Em the day before, what her goal for this run was...her reply was 37min...and I bartered back "how 'bout 35?" (keep in mind this would be a PR AND a 5min one at that for her)....after much thought - she finally agreed..
The race started right on time (big plus). We were off, and immediately I told the gals that we needed to slow down - as our pace was far too quick out of the gate...we finally got settled in at a nice maintainable pace about half a km.
The course was clearly marked out, and lined with very cheery, encouraging and smiling volunteers!
By the time we were running across the dam it was pretty windy - can you tell???
Is it that windy? Or are they that fast?? |
Damn Dam |
At one point I heard "man down" (I think these were the only words that Em was able to utter during the run) only to look beside me, and see I had lost her...ooopsie...maybe she should reconsider hiring me as her pacer...lol.
I kept yelling offering words of encouragement to keep at it, as we were right on track to meet our goal. We rounded the corner and headed down the hill - I could see the clock time...and kept pushing her to finish strong...and we did it...35:20!!!!
We got our high 5's in and the ladies thanked me for being such a "watch nazi" throughout the race - and then in true Canadian fashion - it started snowing - so we headed indoors for the post race spread - and a warm drink.
Well Deserved Post Race Snack |
The post race food offered was a good variety - they had fruit infused flatbreads, bagels, bananas, peanut butter, Nutella, Mother's Day cupcakes, clif protein bars, coffee, tea and hot chocolate!
This was such a well run local event! And for the price of registration ($15) it was an awesome value. I mean look at the swag bags we got
Swag |
This past weekend's race was #2 in a series of 4 races this year - and I will definitely be signing up for the next 2!!!
Way to go Em....sooooo incredibly proud of how well you did - and how far you've come in such a short amount of time!!!

And just for something random today - I definitely think I need to try this sometime this summer at the beach
