The Perfect Beach Cruiser

Posted by CheapRunnerMike

Well it's Thursday and we've been enjoying a nice week here in these parts…it's been sunny and warmer than we've had in a while…still cool though in the mornings!  I've been kicking around the idea of starting to ride my bike into work again, but it's just not quite warm enough for me yet…we're just over freezing when I head in, and it tends to feel colder on the bike with the wind in your face.  Soon though!

Speaking of bikes, Michelle and Rhoda have their beach cruisers for up at the cottage but I've only got a mountain bike up there…not very beachy at all.  The other day I came across this beauty though and I think a new beach bike may be in order!

I think I could make this work!  One addition I may make would be a pedal-powered Frozen Concoction Maker…then we could serve up some of these babies wherever we were just by cranking out a couple of miles on the bike!

Ah, I miss warm cottage days!  We should be back up there real soon though, hopefully Easter Weekend.  We need to get out of our hibernation and start enjoying the great outdoors again.  It's funny the effect our weather has on our fitness…it is so easy to get out and be active when the weather is nice, and just as easy to stay in and be lazy when the weather is not so nice.

I did get out for my lunch run the other day and though it was a touch on the cool side to start, I was able to warm up as I got going as the sun was out and doing it's job.  I've now worn my shorts for my last few runs and I'm hoping the tights have been put away for the season.  I got in a little over 13K/8 miles through the park and my legs felt well enough to get a negative split of over a minute…maybe my speed is starting to return just in time for this weekend's half marathon.  I have a goal for this year to break 1:30 in the half (my PR was 1:30:18 last year) and while I don't feel like I'm in the best shape going into this race after dealing with a foot injury and being on the low side mileage-wise, this latest run is at least encouraging.

On the swimming side of things, I am almost finished with my Swim-a-Mile program…just one session left and the 6 week program is complete!  The last session is simply swimming a mile non-stop and I'm planning on doing that one tomorrow, either at lunch (swunch!) or later on with Michelle for our "date night".  I have also taken on a little challenge for myself as well and I'm attempting to get in 10 miles of swimming in April…I'm at 3 miles so far so I am right on track.  I'm going to tag my swimming picks on Instagram with the hashtag #10miles30days

  2. I'm loving the beach cruiser you showed above! Of course one that would power the margarita machine would be good, too!
Great job on the swim program - I can't imagine swimming a mile.

  4. If my prototype works I may need to start a boozer cruiser bike business ;)
Swimming a mile in the pool isn't too bad...we'll see how it goes in open water though

So I'm really impressed with the swimming...I was born and raised in the water and that is a SUPER workout. It gets my heart pumping quicker than anything!

Pahahaha that bike!! I guess my perfect beach bike would include an air conditioner if it was super hot, and then a chair that would fold out so when I get to my destination I already have a seat.
