I sure hope so!! It looks like Mother Nature has finally realized which month it is here in Southwestern Ontario and we have some warmer temperatures making their way in. If you've followed us at all through the winter, you know that we are in desperate need of some decent weather!
Last Thursday I was all set to enjoy a run on my lunch break…I grabbed my backpack from my desk and headed down to the gym. Five minutes later I was back up at my desk as I discovered that I had forgot to pack my running shoes. Runner Fail. Suddenly my sandwich didn't look very appealing, so I decided to take this as an opportunity to see what my buddies were up to for lunch. It turned out to be an excellent life choice as they were heading over to The Works, a gourmet burger joint. I ended up exchanging my healthy run for the Dead Ringer Burger…which consisted of smoked brisket, smokey BBQ sauce and jack cheese topped with an onion ring. Mmmmmmm…..
Yes, it was as good as it looks.
On Friday Michelle had to take off down to Chicago for work this weekend which left me to live the single dad life, something I'm really not too fond of. I was able to spend lots of time hanging out with the kids this weekend though, so that was lots of fun. Kennedy and I got in a game of Ticket to Ride, a game in which you build train routes across Europe. It really is a lot more fun than it sounds, you'll have to trust me on this!
Kennedy had the longest train, but I completed the most routes and ended up taking the win.
On Saturday I had really wanted to watch the Tigers game in the afternoon, but I feel guilty about just sitting around doing nothing in the middle of the day. This gave me the idea of jumping on the bike trainer and spinning the miles away while the Tigers pounded the Orioles…it worked out well, both for me and the Tigers, as I got in 60km (37.5 miles) at a 34km/h pace (21.3mph) and the Tigers managed to hold on for a 7-6 victory. High fives all around. Side note…if it wasn't for a half marathon I'm running on Sunday I would really consider getting out for a long ride, like OUTDOORS, this coming weekend. I really need to get the new steed out on the road!
Sunday was another beautiful day and I was able to get out to the park for a run (in shorts!). The paths were JAMMED and it was great to see. Everyone was out enjoying the sun…runners, joggers, walkers, rollerbladers, cyclists, you name it. After not running too much the entire month of March my legs get fatigued a little quicker than they used to, and I really felt it halfway through the 8 mile run. I'm already on a better pace to start this month though, so hopefully the leg stamina will come back soon.
Finally, I've been eating a lot of this stuff over the weekend…I've been meaning to make some guacamole and finally got around to it. Never made it before but it is so easy (and so yummy!). Mine was pretty basic, just added tomato and onion to it, but I could see throwing in some chilies and hot sauce in a future batch for a little sumpthin' sumpthin'.

Great job on the ride/trainer! Great way to watch a game and not feel guilty! What half do you have this weekend??? Man you keep cranking out those races!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! So much more fun to race than to do a training run haha
ReplyDeleteThis weekend is the Run for Retina half marathon here in London. I'm doing the half and so is Rhoda (and her sister, running her first race!). Michelle and Kennedy are both doing the 5K.
i hear you on the single parent - it's just not as much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of games like the train one that are more work than play!!
Yep - ran outside with my youngest son yesterday - it was awesome!
Oh man that guac looks awesome!! Good luck on the half! I'll be doing a 5K out here :-)

ReplyDeleteOh ya, it was some good guac...thanks, and good luck with your 5K too!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good weekend, family time, training time and food! I'm not a guac fan, I know I know I am weird.
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all...I don't like it either...
ReplyDeleteHaha I bet!
ReplyDeleteOh that's right!!! So exciting for her sister!!! Awww yay for Kennedy (well, yay for everyone haha)!!
Love that the burger is listed in your training run!
ReplyDeleteIt was my best training session of the week!
ReplyDeleteGuac looks delish! I like to add cilantro and sun dried tomatoes and top with feta cheese :)
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on the single parent thing; it's hard!
ReplyDeleteMmm, those sound like some good options Katy...I like feta on just about anything!
ReplyDeleteNo kidding...it's tough on your own!
