The Power of Positivity

Posted by CheapRunnerMichelle

Over the weekend I had a talk with K, about the fact that if she would put as much energy into having a positive attitude; as opposed to a grumpy one, she would be so much happier in life...that's all it takes is a choice. A choice to be happy and positive. After having that talk with her, I noticed a big difference in her, and the decisions she made the rest of the day...instead of being bored and bummed out, she looked at the "bright" side and had a great time!

Then I read a piece in Triathlete Magazine, from one of the female athletes...the gist of article was that she did not think that she had the most athleticism, but rather what she did have combined with the positive mindset that she applied to everything in her life, is what made her a winner.

"the key to success is a winning mindset...battles are won and lost in people's heads long before they are fought. Our thoughts dictate our moods, our emotions, our body language and, ultimately, our ability to perform." (Source SupplyBusiness.com)

Positivity is a choice inside of us, each and every single day; and with each life experience we go through...so how exactly can we train our mind to do this?!?

"Positive thinking isn't just a soft and fluffy feel-good term. Yes, it's great to simply "be happy," but those moments of happiness are also critical for opening your mind to explore and build the skills that become so valuable in other areas of your life.

Finding ways to build happiness and positive emotions into your life -- whether it is through meditation, writing, playing a pickup basketball game, or anything else -- provides more than just a momentary decrease in stress and a few smiles.
Periods of positive emotion and unhindered exploration are when you see the possibilities for how your past experiences fit into your future life, when you begin to develop skills that blossom into useful talents later on, and when you spark the urge for further exploration and adventure.

To put it simply: Seek joy, play often, and pursue adventure. Your brain will do the rest." (Source Huffington Post)

Any other tips to add?

What's something that you are choosing to be positive about today?

  1. I love this, Michelle and couldn't agree more!!!
I used to tell my boys (especially my youngest) this same type thing almost daily - he would start every single day off cranky which made me cranky. We talked about how being happy is a choice and no one controls our happiness but us. Things got better and then one morning he said, "I'm not really happy in the mornings, I'm just faking it." That's totally fine - fake away because eventually you forget that you are faking it!!!

  2. Definitely a good reminder that positive attitude can go a long way. I vizualize a lot with my training/running especially and it has gotten me through some really hard workouts before. Eye on the prize.
