Tuesday Thoughts

Posted by CheapRunnerMichelle

Here we are half way through September already. Last week literally overnight it has turned into very fall like weather...cool temps...lots of rain...great "running" weather...except...I haven't been doing much of that lately. I am really focused right now on other things in my life, and I am simply working my heine off to do the best I can.

...speaking of Fall...I need to make an admission...one that I know is not popular in the land of the bloggin'....I Michelle...do NOT like pumpkin...give me a skinny peppermint hot chocolate, and I'll take it any day...but pumpkin - no thanks - I'll pass.

So yesterday I started prepping for my (work) trip to Chicago. I really enjoy Chicago, so this is certainly a trip I always look forward to. I'm even more excited for next week's trip, as Mike will be joining me...he hasn't been able to come the last few trips I've made there - so I am really thankful that we were able to make it work this time. While I am away, I won't be able to "eat" the way I have been, but life is about balance, so I will make the best choices I can, given that I can't prep anything myself. Another thing I need to make sure I keep up while I am away...my workouts. I'd like to just take a moment at give myself a little pat on the back...last week...I got in 6 workouts...that hasn't happened for me in YEARS, so I am thrilled with that. Next week while I am away, I plan on starting each day with being active somehow...the gym is quite small, and not very well equipped where we are staying, so hopefully instead, Mike and I will be able to get out for a few runs together. Both our squat and push-up challenges are finished just before we leave...so I think we'll have to restart them again (and shhhh...maybe even add in a 30 day ab challenge....don't tell Mike that though Winking smile), it's been something "nice" to do each night together before we head to bed...if I want to get my butt (literally) in shape...I definitely need to keep squatting.

I have still been tracking ALL of my food in both the app and manually in my daily planner. It's a lot of work, but between writing it all down, getting consistent workouts in, and making better food choices - I am happy with all of these lifestyle changes that I am making and determined to make stick. Speaking of making better food choices...on Friday night I made pasta for dinner for Mike to carb load before his race on Saturday...so Mike and the kids enjoyed some fettuccini, and I tried something new to me

Last week (as per my AP's recommendation) I purchased a sprializer, and so I made myself some "zoodles"....and I loved then! Delicious...and the sauce I made was also a hit with everyone...I packed it full of veggies, including 1/2 bag of spinach. Win-win...love getting more veggies into my kids, and for them to actually love it.

And so today I leave us all with a good reminder

What's a new eat or workout that you've tried lately?

  1. While I love pumpkin I can understand that some people just don't like it. Some people LOVE that new Taylor swift song "Shake it off" and personally it makes me want to turn the radio off instantly and run away. We can be hated by the internet together.

So glad Mike will be able to go to Chicago with you and I love that you have been doing the challenges. So great to have support and encouragement while doing things like that :)

  2. I have a spiralizer and I have had it for a couple of months still in a box from my move...I have not used it yet!! Really want to make some zoodles! I carb load with quinoa pasta (gluten free) for my long runs. Maybe I will make zoodles at some point soon!
