We are now on our way to Geneva, NY for my very first Half-Iron race. 70.3 miles await me on Sunday morning and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little nervous.
It is looking to be a fun weekend as there are races on Friday evening and Saturday as well as the Half on Sunday. Friday are both the kids races and the micro-Mussel (µMussel for short). The µMussel is a goofy "super sprint" race that is a 100m swim, a 0.8 mile bike and a 0.2 mile run. There are two waves, with the first being for the serious athletes (meaning they get to ride real bikes) and the second being completed on tricycles and Big Wheels. I'm sure there will be some laughs!
It will also be fun to meet Laura, who will be making the trip to volunteer at Sunday's race. She says that she will be pulling my ass out of the water after the swim...she'll know it's me because I'll be the guy in a black wetsuit with a white swim cap and goggles ;)
I've been taking it pretty easy this week and the only workout since Monday's run was Splash n Dash on Wednesday. I decided before we started that I wouldn't push too hard, and I still managed a good swim without exerting too much effort. The 5K run never felt difficult either and I still put up the fastest run of the night, once again finishing 3rd overall. Despite my best efforts to keep healthy, I may have picked up a bit of a cold from the swim...it was a bit chilly and I was up all night trying to breathe. I was totally congested all day Thursday too, so hopefully this clears up!
The week has been spent relaxing, loading up on the carbs and getting well hydrated. Michelle has been the supportive wife and filled my Tuesday night snack craving with a run to the store for peanut M&M's, and then keeping me hydrated on Wednesday night with $3.50 Coronas at Crabby Joe's...
...and then on Thursday night I went for a carbolicious dinner at Boston Pizza with these two crazies
Pulled Pork Penne for me...sounds better than it tastes unfortunately :( It did the carb job though I suppose.
Well, that's it for today...tough writing up a post from behind the wheel! I'll be sure to have a recap for y'all on Wednesday...until then, have a great weekend!
Sounds like a fun weekend for sure! Hope you are feeling better! And kick some butt on Sunday!!!
